YANG Zilin, director of China Imex Bank, said the bank would do all it could to help China become a centre for world shipbuilding exports. Speaking at a recent forum, Zilin pointed out there is fierce competition in the international shipbuilding market and that ship prices are going down all the time. He added that in China building costs are rising at present and it is getting more and more difficult to export ships. If China fails to keep up ship exports the development of the shipbuilding industry will be hindered, which will in turn affect economic growth and employment. Many ship owning delegates at the forum called to explain the banks' role in granting export credits, predicted that in the future China will inevitably be the centre for the shipbuilding industry anyway.
